Your Igloofest Ticket Lives Only on Your Phone

Igloofest on the Jacques-Cartier Pier turns a frozen stretch of the Old Port into a dancefloor, and almost everything you need for the night sits inside your phone. Tickets are emailed after purchase and you download them to your smartphone, because tickets are sold only online and never at the door 3. You also show photo ID at each event, and the pier has no lockers or place to store anything, so the phone stays in your pocket all night 2.

That creates a problem that is specific to Montreal in winter. Cold drains a battery quickly, and a pier crowded with thousands of people who all open the same ticket QR code at the gate can leave you with one bar of signal. Loading the ticket before you leave the hotel, and keeping a working mobile connection for the metro home, is part of the plan rather than an extra.

Late Metro Checks on the Orange Line

The festival says Champ-de-Mars and Place-d'Armes, both on the Orange line, are a few minutes' walk from the site 2. When a Friday or Saturday night ends around 00:30 in 2026 hours, every phone in the crowd checks the STM app at once 2. Having data on the pier avoids standing in the cold waiting for a timetable to load.

Splitting the Group Between Two Stages

The site has the Sapporo Stage, the Videotron Stage and the Igloovillage, so a group can easily drift apart between sets 6. A shared location pin or a quick message beats shouting over a bass line in gloves, and it keeps working after you leave through the gate, since there is no re-entry shown as an option for a lost friend.

Card-Only Payment at the Food Trucks

Credit and debit cards are the only payment accepted across the whole site, and the rules page does not mention cash 2. Tap-to-pay on a phone wallet works best when the phone has a signal and a warm battery. If the card app logs you out in the cold, you will want data to sign back in.

The complete guide

When Is Igloofest in 2027?

Igloofest in Montreal is expected to run from Thursday, January 14 to Saturday, February 6, 2027 1 5. The organiser's own 2027 page shows that range, though the same page still carries leftover wording from the 2026 season, so treat it as expected rather than final until the ticket calendar is published 1. A Quebec tourism listing also flags the dates as to be confirmed 7.

The festival does not move with a lunar or religious calendar. It sits in the coldest weeks of the Montreal winter on purpose, and that is the whole point of the event: dancing outdoors in winter gear. Past editions show the pattern. The 2026 season ran from January 15 to February 7, 2026, the same Thursday-to-Saturday shape one day later on the calendar 2.

Within the season, nights are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. In 2026, Thursdays ran from 19:30 to 23:00, and Fridays and Saturdays from 19:30 to 00:30 2. Each night is a separate event with its own ticket, so the dates that matter for you are the individual nights rather than the season range 3.

The first night with a published lineup is Saturday, January 23, 2027, with Ninajirachi, Frost Children, MGNA CRRRTA and Isla Den 1. A festival listing site gives those sets as running from 19:30 on the Sapporo Stage 6. Other nights had not been announced when this page was checked.

Igloofest does not stop in Montreal. A festival aggregator lists the 2027 touring season continuing in Gatineau from February 11 to 13, Quebec City from March 4 to 6 and Edmonton from March 11 to 13 6. Those are separate festivals with their own rules, so check each one before you book.

Tip: If you want a specific act, wait for that night's lineup and buy in the first tier, because prices rise as the night fills 3.

How Do Igloofest's Tiered Night Tickets Work?

Igloofest sells a separate ticket for every night, and the price rises in tiers as the night sells through 3. The organiser's 2026 listing started general admission at 49 CAD plus taxes and VIP at 97.07 CAD plus taxes 12. A Quebec tourism listing showed a general admission figure of 59 CAD for the 2027 edition, so expect the 2027 starting price to differ from 2026 7.

There are two main types. General admission gets you onto the pier. VIP adds fast entry, bottle service, a terrace with heated bathrooms, a view of the stage and heated indoor spaces 3. Neither is sold at the door: tickets are sold only online, delivered by email and shown from your phone 3. Only tickets bought on Igloofest's own website are accepted, so a resale listing is a risk 3.

The Igloopass is the season option, and it covered all 12 Montreal events at general admission in 2026 3. It is personal, so you cannot lend it, and you show it with photo ID at each event 3. The 2026 passes were sold out, and passes are generally reserved first for newsletter subscribers 3. If you want one in 2027, subscribe before sales open.

Payment has quirks. The ticket page accepts Visa and Mastercard, and prepaid cards and Visa Debit are not currently supported 3. Ticket sales are final, but if an event is postponed or cancelled you are reimbursed 3.

  • Photo ID: a driver's licence, passport or health insurance card 2

  • Minimum age: 18 in Montreal 2

  • Resale: not accepted, only tickets from the Igloofest site 3

Tip: Buy with a normal Visa or Mastercard credit card, not a prepaid card or Visa Debit, or the checkout will refuse it 3.

Which Metro Station Is Closest to Jacques-Cartier Pier?

Champ-de-Mars and Place-d'Armes, both on the Orange line, are the two metro stations the festival points to, and each is a few minutes' walk from the site 2. A tourism listing for the festival names Champ-de-Mars as the nearest station and gives the pier's address as Jacques-Cartier Pier, Old Port of Montreal, QC H2Y 2E2 5.

Other rail and bus links feed those stations. The festival says the Montreal Bus Terminal connects to Berri-UQAM station and Central Station connects to Bonaventure station 2. From the airport, the STM 747 Express bus runs between Montreal-Trudeau airport, Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM metro stations, and the Gare d'Autocars de Montreal 8. It leaves every 10 to 15 minutes through the day 8. The STM listed the fare at 11 CAD per person for a 24-hour pass covering bus, metro, exo train and REM in Zone A 8.

Be aware that fare boxes near downtown stops take cash or card and issue a receipt that you exchange on board. That receipt is for one trip and valid for 2 hours after purchase 8. You can also buy the airport fare on your smartphone, but you must activate it before boarding 8.

For the festival itself, a simple plan is the 747 to Lionel-Groulx or Berri-UQAM, then the Orange line to Place-d'Armes or Champ-de-Mars, then a walk through Old Montreal to the pier.

  • Nearest stations: Champ-de-Mars, Place-d'Armes (Orange line) 2

  • Bus terminal link: Berri-UQAM 2

  • Train link: Central Station to Bonaventure 2

Tip: Pick up your return fare on the way in. Leaving at 00:30 with the whole crowd is not the moment to look for a vending machine 2.

What Is Programmed on the Sapporo Stage on January 23, 2027?

The Sapporo Stage hosts the first announced night, Saturday, January 23, 2027 1 6. The organiser lists Ninajirachi, Frost Children (DJ set), MGNA CRRRTA (DJ set) and Isla Den (DJ set) for that night 1. A festival listing gives the set times as Isla Den at 19:30, MGNA CRRRTA at 21:00, Frost Children at 22:00 and Ninajirachi at 23:00 6.

The site is laid out around two stages and a village. The Sapporo Stage and the Videotron Stage are the two stages, and the Igloovillage is the social area with food trucks 6 2. An information kiosk in the village handles lost items, and the GRIP team in the Scena space is the festival's harassment and safety unit 2. Security can help too 2.

Igloofest also runs Apres-Ski venues, where you can leave your things at a coat check, and those venues are 18+ 11. The main pier has no lockers, so the Apres-Ski coat check is the one place to consider if you do not want to wear everything all night 2 11.

The flow of a night matters more than any single set. On a Saturday with a 23:00 headliner, most people arrive between the early sets, queue through the bag search, and shuffle between the Igloovillage and the main stage to warm up 2 6. The main stage fills as the last set approaches. If you want a clear view, arrive for the earlier sets, not the last one.

  • Stages: Sapporo Stage and Videotron Stage 6

  • Social area: Igloovillage, with food trucks 2 6

  • Support: GRIP team in the Scena space, information kiosk in the village 2

Tip: Treat the schedule as a plan, not a promise. Only one night was announced when this page was checked, and set times can still change 1 6.

How Cold Is Jacques-Cartier Pier on a January Night?

Cold is the defining condition at Igloofest, and Montreal's January mean temperature is -9.2°C, with February's at -7.9°C 9. Those are daily means, so the hours after dark on an exposed pier are colder than the monthly numbers suggest, especially with wind off the water. The festival's own advice is a windproof winter coat, snow pants, a beanie, mittens, boots, warm socks, a scarf or balaclava, and hand and foot warmers 2.

The mid-January weeks are usually the coldest in the season, and the first week of February is a little milder on average, going by the monthly means 9. Crowds follow the calendar, not the weather. Saturdays are the busiest nights, Thursdays are the shortest nights and finish at 23:00 in 2026 hours 2.

The Old Port sits beside the river, and the pier is open on several sides. Wind matters more than the thermometer, so choose a windproof outer layer over a thick fleece with no shell.

Shows are outdoors and run in all weather, though the festival can cancel or postpone if conditions become dangerous, in which case tickets are reimbursed 3. There is no published temperature cut-off, so check the official site on the day.

  • Mean temperature: January -9.2°C, February -7.9°C 9

  • Shortest night: Thursday, finishing at 23:00 in 2026 hours 2

  • Longest nights: Friday and Saturday, finishing at 00:30 in 2026 hours 2

Tip: Warm up between sets in the Igloovillage, and take a break before you lose feeling in your toes 2.

What Winter Layers Does a Night on the Pier Demand?

There is no dress code at Igloofest, so what you wear is about staying warm and avoiding the rule that bans clothing in the image of a street gang 2. The organiser recommends a windproof winter coat, snow pants, a beanie, mittens, boots, warm socks, a scarf or balaclava, and hand and foot warmers 2.

Dressing in layers works best. Start with a thermal base layer, add an insulating mid layer, and finish with the windproof shell. Mittens beat gloves because they keep fingers together, and boots with a thick sole protect your feet from the cold ground. Some regulars add costume pieces over their parkas, so any costume piece should sit over the warm layers, never replace them.

Pack light, because the site rules shape what you can carry. Backpacks, cooler bags and sports bags are banned regardless of size, and bags bigger than 35 cm x 35 cm x 15.25 cm are refused 2. A zipped coat pocket plus a small bag is the realistic answer.

Do not forget your phone. Cold reduces battery life quickly, so keep it inside a pocket near your body and use airplane mode while you dance if you do not need it.

  • Wear: windproof coat, snow pants, beanie, mittens, insulated boots 2

  • Add: scarf or balaclava, hand and foot warmers 2

  • Skip: backpacks, umbrellas, folding chairs 2

Note: The rules page lists umbrellas among the prohibited items, so a rain shell works better than an umbrella if snow turns to rain 2.

Which Bags and Items Does Gate Security Refuse at Igloofest?

Every festival-goer and every bag is searched on entry at Igloofest, and anyone carrying a prohibited item is refused unless they dispose of it in the containers provided 2. The banned list covers alcoholic beverages, outside food and drinks, glass containers, drugs except prescription drugs in their original container, weapons, fireworks, confetti, sparklers, tents, umbrellas, folding chairs, bicycles, skateboards, skates, drones, selfie sticks, tripods and animals other than accredited assistance dogs 2.

Cameras are limited too: professional cameras of 8 in. or more with accessories are not allowed 2. The page recommends bringing a reusable bottle, and food trucks are on site 2. The rules also list food and drinks as banned, so keep the bottle empty and refill it on site.

There are no lockers or storage places on the main site 2. A tourism listing mentions lockers, but the organiser's rules say none, so follow the organiser 5 2. The Apres-Ski venues have a coat check 11.

On identity and age, the Montreal event is 18+, and photo ID is required. The Quebec City edition admits people aged 16 and over, which causes confusion for families who have been to that edition 2 10. Montreal does not.

Cannabis follows Quebec law. Smoking or vaping it is prohibited in all public places, and buying or possessing it is prohibited under 21 2. For accessibility, there are accessible toilets, no reserved sections, and guides for people with reduced mobility get free entry after visiting customer service on arrival 2.

  • Banned: backpacks, umbrellas, folding chairs, glass, outside drinks 2

  • Allowed: small bags that fit 35 cm x 35 cm x 15.25 cm 2

  • ID: photo ID, 18+ in Montreal 2

Tip: Leave the backpack at the hotel. Anything on the banned list ends in a bin at the gate, not a locker 2.

Which Old Montreal Base Suits an Igloofest Weekend?

Old Montreal is the base closest to the pier, because the festival site sits in the Old Port and the two Orange line stations the organiser names are Champ-de-Mars and Place-d'Armes 2. Staying in that neighbourhood or in the Place-d'Armes area means you can walk home in winter gear without depending on transport at 00:30.

Downtown near the Orange line is the second option, because you can ride to Place-d'Armes or Champ-de-Mars on the metro 2. Hotels near Berri-UQAM suit travellers arriving by coach, as the Montreal Bus Terminal connects to that station 2.

The organiser lists hotel partner packages that bundle a stay with tickets 4. In 2026 they ranged from 95.60 CAD for a hostel stay with a general admission ticket to 311 CAD for a hotel stay with an Igloofest day pass per person 4. A mid-range package started from 205 CAD plus taxes for a standard room, and a hotel package with two general admission tickets started from 245 CAD per person 4. Details change each season, so check the packages page when 2027 opens.

Winter is lower season for hotels in Montreal, but weekends in January can still fill when popular lineups are announced. Book rooms when you buy tickets, and pick a cancellation policy that allows changes, because the ticket itself is not refundable unless the event is cancelled 3.

  • Closest area: Old Montreal 2

  • Metro alternative: near Place-d'Armes or Berri-UQAM 2

  • Bundles: hotel and ticket packages on the organiser's site 4

Tip: If you book a bundle, confirm whether the ticket is for one night and which night, as each night is its own event 3 4.

Why Does the Pier Need a Phone and a Mobile Connection?

Your phone is your ticket, your wallet and your route home at Igloofest, so a working connection matters more than at most festivals. Tickets arrive by email and are downloaded to a smartphone, and tickets are sold only online 3. The site accepts credit and debit cards only 2.

Open the ticket in your phone's wallet or screenshot it before you leave the hotel. On a pier crowded with thousands of guests, mobile coverage can slow down at the gate, and Wi-Fi in the Old Port is not a safe plan. Roaming for visitors from outside Canada can be expensive, and a Canadian data plan solves it. If you are arriving from abroad, a Canada eSIM installed before you fly means you land with data for the 747 bus, the Orange line and the ticket.

The STM airport fare can be bought and activated on a smartphone before boarding, which also needs data 8. Maps help in Old Montreal, where cobbled streets run at odd angles.

Cold is the other enemy. Keep the phone in an inside pocket, switch to low-power mode, and carry a small power bank, which fits within the 35 cm x 35 cm x 15.25 cm bag limit 2. If you separate from friends between the Sapporo Stage and the Videotron Stage, share your location before the first set 6.

  • Before you leave: download the ticket and ID photo of your card details 3

  • On the pier: low-power mode, phone close to your body 2

  • Going home: STM app open on the Orange line 2

Tip: Photo ID is checked at the gate, so keep it in a pocket you can reach with mittens on 2.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The Montreal edition is for people aged 18 and over, and photo ID is required at the gate 2. The Quebec City edition states that you must be 16 and over 10. If you have a teenager who went to Quebec City, that does not carry over to the Jacques-Cartier Pier, so check the age rule for the specific city before buying a ticket.

No. The organiser's rules say there is no locker room and no place to store items on the main site 2. A tourism listing mentions lockers, but the festival's own page is the one to trust 5 2. The Apres-Ski venues have a coat check, so consider those if you need to leave a layer 11. Otherwise, wear what you need and carry only a small bag.

Yes, if the festival postpones or cancels a night, you are reimbursed. Otherwise ticket sales are final, which means you cannot cancel because you feel unwell or the weather looks bad 3. Shows run in all weather, but dangerous conditions can lead to a change, so follow the official site before you leave your hotel on the night.

No. Credit and debit cards are the only payment accepted across the whole site, and the rules page does not mention cash 2. Bring a card that works in Canada and load a phone wallet if you use one. Tickets themselves accept Visa and Mastercard, while prepaid cards and Visa Debit are not currently supported online 3.

The Igloopass covered all 12 Montreal events at general admission in 2026 and was sold out for that season 3. Passes are generally reserved first for newsletter subscribers, they are personal, and you show a digital pass with photo ID at each event 3. Subscribe to the festival's newsletter and wait for the 2027 sales announcement.

Cold can drain a phone battery faster than usual, so keep it in an inside pocket, close to your body, and use low-power mode. Your ticket is on your phone and tickets are digital, so a dead phone could keep you out of the gate 3. A small power bank fits within the 35 cm x 35 cm x 15.25 cm bag limit 2.
