Why Does an Ungated Festival Run Through the TCMF App?

There is no gate, no wristband and no single site at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, so the programme lives on your phone. Shows happen at the same time in pubs, clubs, halls and parks right across the city, and the organiser describes thousands of free and ticketed shows over the 10 days 1. The printed Official Guide helps, but the TCMF app and the What's On feed are where you save favourites and see late additions, and the same login works on both 1. Shows happen at the same time in pubs, clubs, halls and parks right across the city, and the organiser describes thousands of free and ticketed shows over the 10 days 1. Shows happen at the same time in pubs, clubs, halls and parks right across the city, and the organiser describes thousands of free and ticketed shows over the 10 days 1.The app helps navigate the thousands of free and ticketed shows happening simultaneously across the city, allowing you to save favourites and see late additions 1. Each step, from checking gig times to bus timetables and ticket availability, needs a signal. In January 2026 the council counted more than 300,000 visits across the 10 days 18. When that many phones share the few blocks around Peel Street and Fitzroy Street, slow loading is normal, so download the guide pages you need while you still have a quiet connection at your motel or campsite.

Showing a Print-at-Home Golden Guitars Ticket at TRECC

Golden Guitar Awards tickets can be printed at home, and many people simply show them on a phone at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC) door 4. Doors open 30 minutes before the 7:30pm start 4. Save the ticket as a PDF and a screenshot before you leave town, because the queue forms while the rest of Tamworth is heading to Toyota Park.

Checking the Festival Express Timetable Between Venues

The Festival Express bus links venues across Tamworth, and its map, town timetable and rural timetable are published online 9. Tickets are sold at Shop 32 Centrepoint on Brisbane Street or from the driver, and every bus takes cash and card 9. Checking the next departure on your phone saves a long walk in 30-degree heat when a show sits at a club outside the CBD.

Finding Friends Outside the FanZone Stage

The Toyota FanZone on the corner of Peel Street and Fitzroy Street is where most groups agree to meet, and it fills quickly once the first sets start at about 9am 6. A shared live location works better than "near the stage". The council's free @TRC_Free_WiFi network covers Fitzroy Street, so a phone without mobile data can still message from there 8.

Following Hazards Near Me Alerts by the Peel River

The Design RV Riverside Camping Grounds sit next to the Peel River in a flood zone, and the organiser asks campers to install the Hazards Near Me app 11 13. The app pushes flood, storm and fire alerts as they change 11. Campers also register a mobile number when buying a site, so emergency services can reach them 13.

When Is Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2027?

The Tamworth Country Music Festival 2027 runs for ten days, from Friday 15 January to Sunday 24 January 2027, in Tamworth, New South Wales 1. It is the 55th festival, and the Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards are held on Saturday 23 January 2027 at TRECC 2 4. The NSW Government lists the same ten days and places the event on Peel Street, Tamworth NSW 2340 17.

The festival has a fixed shape: it starts on a Friday and finishes ten days later on a Sunday, with the Golden Guitars on the second Saturday 1 17. The organiser has already published the next two editions: Friday 14 to Sunday 23 January 2028 and Friday 19 to Sunday 28 January 2029 1. For comparison, the 54th festival in 2026 also ran for ten days, and its parade filled the streets on Saturday 24 January 2026 18 19.

Why late January? The organiser explains that the festival was first timed around the Australia Day long weekend, which used to be the third weekend in January 1. Country music activity already took place on that weekend in the late 1960s, so the Golden Guitars were added to it, and the awards have been presented since 1973 1 4. When Australia Day moved to a fixed 26 January, the festival had already grown to ten days, and the organiser says no other time of year can hold an event of that length 1.

Key days in the 2027 calendar:

  • Friday 15 January: Opening Night Concert in Toyota Park, ending with fireworks 3

  • Sunday 17 January: 47th Toyota Star Maker Grand Final in Toyota Park 2

  • Saturday 23 January: Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards at TRECC from 7:30pm 4

  • Sunday 24 January: Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships in Toyota Park 2

Tip: The first weekend is when the city fills up for the Opening Night Concert, and the last weekend brings the awards. Arriving on Thursday 21 January 2027 gives you the album launch night, the awards and the busking final in one short trip 2 4.

What Does a Golden Guitar Awards Seat Cost at TRECC?

A seat at the Toyota 55th Golden Guitar Awards costs AUD 90 to AUD 175 per person, while the streets, the Toyota FanZone and the Toyota Park concerts need no ticket at all 1 4. The Tamworth Country Music Festival is ungated, so you never buy a festival pass; you pay show by show 1.

The 2027 Golden Guitars price list at TRECC, booking fee and GST included, is 4:

  • Gold+: AUD 175, or AUD 165 per person for groups of 10 or more 4

  • Gold: AUD 155, or AUD 145 per person for groups of 10 or more 4

  • Silver: AUD 115, or AUD 110 per person for groups of 10 or more 4

  • Bronze restricted view: AUD 90, where camera or technical gear may block part of the stage 4

A transaction fee of AUD 2.85 online, AUD 3.85 in person or AUD 4.85 by phone is added, and there are no refunds or exchanges 4. Children must be at least 5, there is no lap sitting, and only phone photos without flash are allowed 4. The show runs about three hours with no interval 4.

Everything else is booked through the venue that runs it. The organiser points buyers to three groups: Wests Entertainment Group, The Pub Group and Entertainment Venues 1. Entertainment Venues sells shows at TRECC, the Capitol Theatre and the Town Hall 4. In 2027 the Town Hall stages acts such as Fanny Lumsden, John Butler and Kaylee Bell, Lee Kernaghan and Troy Cassar-Daley headline at TRECC, and The Wolfe Brothers return to The Longyard 2. The first round of ticketed shows went on sale on Thursday 9 July 2026 2.

Tip: Entertainment Venues shows can also be bought in person at the Capitol Theatre box office on Level 1 of Centrepoint Plaza, Peel Street, or by phone on (02) 6767 5200, and international buyers call +61 2 6767 5300 1.

Inside Toyota Park, the Tooheys Country Pub is a paid, strictly limited area under cover, and the only licensed area in the park 3.

How Do You Get From Sydney to Peel Street?

Tamworth sits 405 km north-west of Sydney, 280 km from Newcastle and 570 km south of Brisbane, and you can reach it by train, plane or road 10. The festival heart is Peel Street, Tamworth NSW 2340, at -31.0918, 150.9308 17.

By train. Daily trains run to Tamworth from Sydney and Armidale 10. Transport for NSW lists the fastest Sydney Central to Tamworth service at 6 hours 2 minutes, departing 09:35 and arriving 15:37, with slower train-and-coach links taking over 11 hours 15. Tamworth station is close to the CBD, and during the festival artists play Platform Sessions on the station platform as the train rolls in 12.

By air. Tamworth Regional Airport is 10 km from the city 16. QantasLink flies Tamworth to Sydney seven days a week with up to six flights a day, and Link Airways also serves the airport 16. Hire cars wait at the terminal, and a door-to-door shuttle runs to the airport and the train station 16.

By road. The organiser asks drivers to use the Live Traffic and Hazards Near Me apps on the way 10. The Tamworth Visitor Information Centre at the Big Golden Guitar is a useful first stop for maps and last-minute beds 1.

Once you are in town, leave the car. In 2027 the Fringe Zone stretch of Peel Street, between Brisbane Street and Bourke Street, is closed to traffic for all ten days 18. The Festival Express bus links venues across the city and rural stops 9:

  • Adult: AUD 5 a day, or AUD 40 for an unlimited festival wristband 9

  • Children aged 4 to 16: AUD 2.50 a day, or AUD 25 for a wristband 9

  • Pensioners and seniors: AUD 2.50 a day, or AUD 25 for a red wristband 9

Tip: The CBD taxi rank is on Fitzroy Street outside Peel House, near Tamworth Town Hall; on busy nights, book a taxi by phone before the last song 9.

How Does the Festival Build Toward Golden Guitar Saturday?

The Tamworth Country Music Festival builds over ten days from an opening fireworks concert to the Golden Guitar Awards on the final Saturday, with free stages running every day in between 3 4 6. In 2027 the daily rhythm is busking on Peel Street, Toyota FanZone sets through the day and a Toyota Park concert every night from 7pm 3 5 6.

Mornings and afternoons. The Toyota FanZone stage at the corner of Peel Street and Fitzroy Street starts at about 9am, with more than 150 artists over the ten days and some artist signings 6. Peel Street itself is the "Boulevard of Dreams", where up to 465 registered buskers play on allocated pitches; Keith Urban, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kasey Chambers and Beccy Cole all busked there 5 18. Further down, the Festival Fringe Zone on Peel Street between Brisbane Street and Bourke Street adds street performers, line dance classes and emerging acts from 10am 7.

Evenings in Toyota Park. The 2027 Toyota Park nights, all free, are 3:

  • Friday 15 January: Opening Night Concert with Max Jackson, finishing with fireworks 3

  • Saturday 16 January: Girls Night Out, hosted by Amber Lawrence 3

  • Sunday 17 January: 47th Toyota Star Maker Grand Final with the top 10 finalists 3

  • Monday 18 to Thursday 21 January: Americana in the Park, Bluegrass Hoedown, Back to the Bush, then iHeartCountry LIVE in the Park 3

  • Friday 22 January: Friday Night Lights album launch night 3

  • Saturday 23 January: Country Party in the Park 3

  • Sunday 24 January: Toyota Best of the Buskers Championships 2

The Country Gospel Experience also fills Toyota Park from 9am on Sunday 17 January 2027 2.

The parade. The Country Music Parade took over from the old cavalcade, which last ran in 2020, and returned in a new format in 2024 19. In 2026 it ran on the morning of Saturday 24 January, starting near the old velodrome and running down White Street and Kable Avenue, with Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan and Kasey Chambers taking part 19.

Tip: Golden Guitar Saturday clashes with Country Party in the Park. If you have no awards ticket, the Toyota Park concerts are streamed each night on the TCMF Facebook page, so you can watch one and replay the other 1.

How Hot Is Tamworth in Late January?

Tamworth in late January is hot and mostly dry: the Bureau of Meteorology's Tamworth Airport station records a January mean maximum of 33.1°C and a mean minimum of 17.6°C 14. January averages 62.3 mm of rain over about 5.4 rain days 14. Afternoon humidity is low, around 35 percent at 3pm, so the heat feels dry and burns quickly 14.

The organiser warns that temperatures often pass 30 degrees in January and asks visitors to drink water, wear loose clothing and stay indoors in the hottest part of the day 11. Refill stations for water bottles are set up around the festival precinct 11. Its packing list for the Tamworth Country Music Festival is short 1:

  • A hat; the straw Toyota hat comes from the Toyota Zone 1

  • Sunscreen 1

  • A fold-out chair or picnic rug for Toyota Park 1

  • A driver's licence or photo ID, since NSW clubs and hotels check age at the door 1

Crowds build through the week. On a 1 to 5 scale, the first Friday is a 4 because the Opening Night Concert draws the biggest park crowd; the 2026 opening night drew about 8,000 people 18. Monday to Thursday sit around 3, while the last weekend is a 5 with the awards and the busking final 18.Tip: Plan the hottest hours, roughly midday to 4pm, around indoor shows at the Town Hall, the Capitol Theatre or an air-conditioned club. Use mornings for Peel Street buskers and evenings for Toyota Park, which starts at 7pm 3.

When a storm does arrive, check the Hazards Near Me app before walking to the Peel River campsites 11.

Is Riverside Camping by the Peel River Worth Booking?

Riverside camping is worth booking if you want to walk to Peel Street: the Design RV Riverside Camping Grounds sit next to the Peel River, a few minutes on foot from the CBD 13. In January 2026 more than 1,800 camp spots were booked there across the ten days 18.

The 2027 site fees, per vehicle and including GST, are 13:

  • Countdown and festival: AUD 380 from Friday 8 to Sunday 24 January 2027 13
  • Festival only: AUD 270 from Thursday 14 to Sunday 24 January 2027 13
  • Final weekend: AUD 100 from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January 2027 13

There is no daily rate, sites are not numbered, and you pick any free spot in the camping area when you arrive 13. Every site is unpowered, there are no barbecues, and small quiet generators are allowed 13. Showers, toilets, taps and food canteens are on the grounds, and leashed pets are welcome 13. The gates take card or Eftpos only, with no cash and no refunds; enter through the Carter Street gate 13.

Hotels and motels. Rooms within walking distance of Peel Street go first, so book motels as soon as the dates are announced. In the lead-up and during the festival, the organiser points visitors to the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre for remaining beds, on (02) 6767 5300 1.

Tip: The riverside grounds have no security and sit in a flood zone. Keep valuables on you, follow the water restrictions and check the Hazards Near Me app after heavy rain 11 13.

For visitors who prefer not to drive, the organiser lists coach tour operators from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia 10.

Will Your Phone Cope on the Your phone will work on the "Boulevard of Dreams" (Peel Street), but expect slow data at the busiest hours, when tens of thousands of people share the same few blocks.?

Your phone will work on the "Boulevard of Dreams" (Peel Street), but expect slow data at the busiest hours, when tens of thousands of people share the same few blocks. In January 2026 Tamworth Regional Council counted more than 300,000 visits across the ten days, and 465 buskers were registered on Peel Street 18.

Free Wi-Fi helps but has limits. Tamworth Regional Council runs @TRC_Free_WiFi on Fitzroy Street, at the Tamworth Regional Playground and at the Tamworth Community Centre, and @TamworthAirport_FreeWiFi at the terminal 8. That is enough to send a message, but not to live-stream a Toyota Park set from the back of the crowd.

What uses data at this festival:

  • Navigation: walking between Peel Street pubs, the Town Hall and TRECC, plus the Festival Express timetable 9

  • Programme: the TCMF app, where favourites and new shows appear through the week 1

  • Tickets: print-at-home Golden Guitar tickets saved to your phone 4

  • Safety: Hazards Near Me alerts for storms, floods and fires 11

  • Payments: card taps on Festival Express buses and at the card-only camping gate 9 13

Tip: Install an Australia eSIM before you fly and switch it on when you land, so maps and messages work from the airport shuttle onward. Save the TCMF app favourites, your bus route and your tickets offline the night before.

On the busiest nights, step off Peel Street into a side street to send messages, and agree on a fixed meeting point such as the Toyota FanZone corner rather than relying on calls 6.

Which Festival Landmarks Lie Beyond Peel Street?

The Tamworth Country Music Festival spreads well beyond Peel Street, and the free landmarks are best on a quiet weekday morning. Families are told to stop at the Big Golden Guitar for a selfie, and the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre beside it sells festival merchandise 1 7.

Hands of Fame. The Hands of Fame cornerstone at Kable Avenue and Brisbane Street is free and open all year 12. On the second Saturday morning of the festival, which in 2027 is 23 January, new inductees press their handprints in a public ceremony 12.

Galaxy of Stars. Fan-voted inductees receive a star-shaped plaque set into the forecourt of TRECC 12. Fans vote for the 2027 inductee 12.

The rodeo. The ABCRA National Finals Rodeo returns to the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) in 2027, with more than 3,000 competitors and upwards of 10,000 spectators expected 2. Events include saddle bronc, bull riding, barrel racing and team roping 12.

With children. The Family Zone on Kable Avenue 1 runs dodgem cars, a Ferris wheel and a Mega Drop daily from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 10pm, weather permitting 7. Ride coupons cost AUD 2 each or AUD 55 for 30 7. A quiet space with air conditioning and a parents' room sits in the UNE Building at 24 Fitzroy Street, behind the FanZone stage, from 10am to 4pm 7.

Useful short trips around the festival:

  • Platform Sessions at Tamworth station, where artists play as the train arrives 12

  • A scenic helicopter flight from the Gipps Street playing fields 12

  • The award-winning Tamworth Regional Playground 7

Tip: Dogs are allowed in the CBD and Toyota Park on a leash, so a morning walk to Hands of Fame Park works with a pet too; check each pub or club before going in 1.

In an emergency anywhere in Tamworth, dial Triple Zero (000); for storm or flood help, call the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500 20.

Frequently asked questions

The Tamworth Country Music Festival 2028 runs from Friday 14 to Sunday 23 January 2028 1. The organiser has also listed Friday 19 to Sunday 28 January 2029 1. The pattern holds every year: ten days, Friday to Sunday, in the second half of January, with the Golden Guitar Awards on the second Saturday 17.

Yes, dogs are allowed in the Tamworth CBD and in Toyota Park, as long as they stay on a leash and owners clean up after them 1. Pubs, clubs and halls set their own rules, so check before entering. Leashed pets are also allowed at the Riverside Camping Grounds beside the Peel River 13.

The straw Toyota hat is available at the Toyota Zone between 10am and 4pm each day of the festival 1. Go early in the week, before the hottest days. Official festival merchandise is sold on the corner of Fitzroy Street and Peel Street, at the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre at the Big Golden Guitar and at the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame 1.

The Country Music Parade replaced the old cavalcade, which last ran in 2020 19. In 2026 it was held on the morning of Saturday 24 January, starting near the old velodrome and running down White Street and Kable Avenue 19. Stars such as Troy Cassar-Daley and Kasey Chambers took part 19. Check the TCMF app for the next parade time.

The festival grew out of country music weekends held over the Australia Day long weekend in the late 1960s, and the Golden Guitars were added to that weekend 1. When Australia Day moved to a fixed 26 January, the event had already grown to ten days, and the organiser says no other part of the year can fit it 1.

Yes. Every nightly Toyota Park concert is streamed on the TCMF Facebook page and on the Watch Live page of the festival website 1. That helps on Golden Guitar Saturday, when the awards at TRECC clash with Country Party in the Park 3. The Golden Guitar Awards themselves need a ticket to attend 4.

Data use depends on how much you film. Maps, the TCMF app, the bus timetable and messages use little, while posting video from Peel Street or Toyota Park uses much more. With more than 300,000 visits counted in 2026 18, upload clips on motel Wi-Fi and keep mobile data for navigation and alerts.
